Electric Dancer Bus Certified in the EU and Will Hit Klaipeda’s Roads This Summer

Vejo Projektai, the company making Lithuania’s first fully electric Dancer bus, has received a EU-wide certificate allowing its use for passenger transportation. Developed in Klaipeda, Dancer is also an urban electric transport system, consisting of electric buses, charging and service infrastructure and software.

On Thursday, Klaipeda city municipality has also opened doors to two Dancer buses in its public transport fleet to be launched on actual routes by the end of this summer.

“No doubts future of the public transport belongs to electric, majority of the European cities are preparing to obtain them,” says Peter Klessascheck, the Managing Director of JSC Vejo projektai.

According to Alvydas Naujekas, Chairman of the Board of Vejo Projektai, the vision of Dancer among the first shareholders was born about a decade ago. “We had an idea to help people to choose public transport, we saw opportunities for a more comfortable, healthier city life. Looking back, I see a number of frustrations and obstacles, but today I think we have succeeded not to give up. Most importantly, we have a core of hardened people. The certificate of Dancer means that we are going out of the research and development phase to the second production stage. It will be difficult but interesting”.

Currently, Dancer also offers career opportunities to engineering, information technology and finance professionals as the company is preparing for further growth. Currently, the company employs 39 specialists.

Klaipeda engineers managed to create the bus that is 20-30% lighter than competitors of the same size, using composite materials for the body of the bus and reducing battery pack. This feature helps Dancer to drive more economically, lighter weight provides a feeling of a more comfortable journey. The weight of transport is important for the longevity of the road, for the buildings on the street and for the people who live there. Light Dancer causes less vibration and is quieter.

To charge the batteries of the electric Dancer is pretty enough during the driver’s rest breaks. Dancer can be charged in less than 10 minutes. Extremely fast charging allows it to be used continuously and effectively in the streets of cities, while many competitors have to go through a forced break to recharge their batteries in a depot.

Eimantas Kiudulas, the CEO of Klaipeda free economic zone, believes this remarkable feat of engineering is destined to become the flagship of the Lithuanian industry as it’s a prime example of ‘high value-added manufacturing.

“It combines Lithuanian talent with the latest global trend and innovation. It is also based on R&D and engineering, it solves a real problem, has a tremendous export potential as slick design. Let alone, it’s also produced in Lithuania. I wish Dancer a smooth ride, and obviously, I’m happy to see this company embracing the benefits of Klaipeda FEZ,” says E. Kiudulas.

The Dancer electric transport system is also exceptional in terms of service. It is equipped with the unique Dancer Monitoring System (DMS). It allows monitoring the information on the work of each bus on the computer screen. DMS helps to prevent potential technical problems even before the driver notices them and to respond promptly.

“Online maintenance plus collaboration with the most reliable suppliers, plus engineering solutions allow us to offer exceptional service conditions and a long-term warranty. We want the bus operator not to worry about it, and it would be nice for the driver and the passenger to be there,” concludes Peter Klessascheck, the Managing Director of JSC Vejo projektai.

“We were quite familiar with this bus because we have our own equipment there,” says Andrius Samuilovas, Head of Public Institution Klaipedos Passenger Transport. – “It features our new generation card readers, a new generation controller, a tablet PC, announcement speakers. From our technical side, we are ready to run the bus as soon as such a decision will be taken.”
